It’s hard to constantly listen to the radio all summer and try to catch everything that goes on, so these clips are here on the blog for those who missed them or those who may have heard them and hopefully remembered them.

This blog was a portfolio, a retospective, a visual aid and an addendum to what I couldn’t fit in my clips and I hope everyone enjoyed reading it this summer!

I enjoy every time I get to go on air because it’s what I’m interested in doing, as I sit here in my Ottawa apartment getting ready to start my fourth year of journalism at Carleton.

I’ll get to go on air for Midweek (the show our radio class puts together bi-weekly) the Charlatan Live Sports Update (Mondays on campus radio, 5 minutes looking back on the Carleton and OUA sports from the weekend) and CHL announcing (I do colour commentary for the Ottawa Junior Senators) and continue to learn interesting things and meet great people as I finish my degree.

Speaking of finishing, here’s my top three clips of the year, starting with number three:

First things first, there was another event Sunday at the Head Shoppe in New Minas, where Redken and OnexOne did a Kid’s Cut day to help children escape poverty by doing hair, selling hot dogs and doing face painting from 11 to 2.

Once I got the main course of a hot dog in me, it was time for the first Gala Days event.

I was the MC and introduced the 15 recipes, the royal party and guests before the panel of judges got down to business picking winners in categories like whimsical, best apple dessert (won by the Capital Lounge’s Caramel Apple Cheesecake) and junior/senior.

There was also plenty of chances to sample the desserts in between, with intriguing offerings like dessert pizza and popcorn cake.

Then I took the van back to the station and cleaned out my cubicle, because now it’s Jocelyn’s turn to drive around, meet people, smile and go on the radio for 45 seconds at a time.

What a great summer and a great job, in a wonderful part of the province!

The drive is still going on until university kids like me are back in school so everyone’s covered (late next week – Acadia starts Wednesday).

I was on more charity BBQ duty later, with the Red Cross going at Walmart and Miss Kentville International Amanda Walker having hers at Boston Pizza.

It was then time for the County Fair Mall back-to-school fashion show – as host I got a 20-minute teeth whitening at QuikSmiles (I could even read my scripts while getting it done!) clothes from Zebians and music from CD Plus that I ran off this laptop I am blogging on.

When the show started a crowd had already gathered around Centre Court and it was pretty packed – they heard me stumble over a few fashion terms but overall it went really well and the nine stores represented got their fall looks presented for potential buyers.

I stopped by the Berwick Rec offices to promote the charity softball game that night (coverage on Jerry Neville’s blog, link on top right of page) before going to sumo wrestle at the Greenwood Mall as yet another back to school promotion (full coverage on Hunter Brule’s Blog).

The last event for the day was a fundrasier for the Matthew 25 food bank at the Windsor Farmer’s Market, with collection jars at all the vendors and a prize basket for added donations.

With fashion sense like this it's no wonder County Fair Mall picked me to host their fashion show.

Note the fancy roof ornament - no, not the siren.

A dollar from every Teen Burger sold went to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, along with money from car cutouts and from social networking sites.

I did my part at the New Minas location where we gave away some root beer mugs to those with Teen Burger reciepts, and at the Greenwood Mall where I also took in the back-to-school Es Skateboard show, put on by Limitless Skate and Snow.

Also that night I went to the Port Williams Waterfront Revitalization meeting, for citizens to give their ideas on developing the waterfront over the next 20 years.

There was going to be Twister, hula hoops and a door prize of a night for two at the King George Inn and tickets to King’s Theatre.

We got a tour inside of the Granville Ferry museum which features one of the largest collections of Georgian antiques around and there’s lots of history of a different kind than right down the road at Port Royal.

On the way back I stopped at the Kingston Farmer’s Market to check in on their plans for the winter (they’re moving into the Greenwood Mall).

One addendum is I got a tweet from the Town of Kentville saying full equipment is required this time around.

And a sneak preview of this week’s planned schedule: Wednesday a trip to Granville Ferry for North Hills Museum’s 60′s night, Thursday is Cruisin’ for a Cure at A&W along with the Port Williams Waterfront Revitalization meeting, Friday is back to school sumo wrestling at Greenwood Mall and a food bank fundraiser at the Windsor Food Bank.

For the weekend, Saturday is the Big Brothers Big Sisters school supply drive at Staples New Minas then the back to school fashion show at County Fair Mall, and my last day in the van has a dessert competition in Berwick for Gala Days.

I probably can ride this train for 8 seconds.

Second last COTW before Clip of the YEAR comes from Wednesday night at the Ex – a rare double guest clip with both the morning show hosts.

We rag on Brian Mumford enough for his steer riding (until his great ride this year) so I thought it would be fun to figure out what WE could stay on for eight seconds instead of wondering how long he could last on an actual mad animal.
